Today Lourdes called me early to say that she was not feeling well and would not be at the breakfast program. Jairo has a Dr appointment at 1pm, but needs to be there at 8 am, and Walter is at La Colonia, picking up more food that they are going to throw away, so I took take another taxi. I was so excited for it to be Monday so I could go back to the Breakfast Program with the kids! I was thinking about others who have a job they hate and dread Mondays. I used to feel that way. But today I was happy to be getting back to work.
I washed some jeans and hung them out to dry before I left in the morning, hoping they will be dry
We had eggs, cheese, beans and tortillas - a feast! But for some reason the kids were so grumpy! They were bickering all day. I had to take away some toys. It felt like I spent the whole day asking them to stop arguing with each other. We got out some board games and they had fun playing. Finally there was some peace. But then they refused to put the games away. I was very disappointed and frustrated. Just as I was about to call a cab to leave, Walter can with a truck FULL of stuff from La Colonia. They even had food in the extended cab. It smelled like a dumpster again, but we unloaded it all and put it away. There were a "MONTON" of marshmallows - the small kind. I asked Lourdes if we can use the Cheerios from La Colonia and make rice crispy treats. We may be eating Cheerio treats for years. Lets hope the kids like them!
We also got a bunch of packages of waffles. It cracks me up because everyone here calls them "waf-lays". They gave us a bunch of Log Cabin sugar free syrup so we can serve waf-lays too. There were tons of jars of that Smuckers jelly and peanut butter. Jairo said the kids will not eat it. I am determined to find a way to get them to eat it. It's so expensive and pretty good for them too.
Lourdes was still in bed, not feeling well when as I am leaving the church. My internet at home has not been working. But I can't complain because I don't pay for it. It just limits my ability to keep my blog as thorough as I'd like.
Now it's raining, so I have to hurry home and get my clothes inside! At least putting all of this food away has given me some time to reset my mind and go home in a good mood. If I have to return to the US, I need to figure out what makes me so happy here so I can be sure to keep this joy with me no matter where I live.
