I brought homemade cookies for Eunice. Yesterday was the anniversary of 20 years that she has worked at the church. She was really grateful and surprised to get the cookies. I was glad I brought them for her.
It is kind of funny. In Honduras everyone buys cakes for birthdays. It is the opposite of the US, where a homemade cake means you put your time and effort into the cake. Here a store bought cake means more. On Sunday we bought a cake for Hermida's sister's birthday. Yesterday I was watching a North American sitcom on tv. A woman had to take cupcakes to her son's school. Her husband suggested that she buy the cupcakes at the store. The wife said she could not possibly bring store bought cupcakes for her son's party. People here do not think that way.
Eunice knows that to me making things from scratch is more special so she appreciated the homemade cookies.
Today I also learned that Lourdes will be taking off Mondays and Wednesdays. Her sister Belinda will take over on those days. I will be in charge of the lessons on Fridays. So we will be a team of three to lighten Lourdes' load. That is fine with me! I really like Belinda. She is kind and easy going so it will be nice to have her officially on board with us.
Last week I told Lourdes that I had no idea how I would come up with $500 I was told to expect to pay for taxes on April 15th, plus airfare for a flight back home in June. At the same time I explained that I had complete peace about it and was not worried at all, even though it seems impossible to come up with $1250 in the next 2 weeks. Lourdes said she was proud of me because I was truly living in faith.
Today I received notice that I will not have to pay $500 in taxes as I was told to expect. In fact I will receive a refund! I felt so well cared for by my Holy Father.
I will use the refund toward a ticket to go back to the US in June. I am still a little short for airfare, plus I need $300 in dental work, but it is completely attainable. Now I understand why God did not want me to worry. He carried that burden for me and took care of the problem Himself. I never, ever expected this. It is so awesome to see God at work. All I needed was faith. That gave Him space to step in and remind me of His great Power.
If you are able to help out with the rest of the plane fare and dental work I would be so grateful! Here is the link for donations:
